Class Descriptions

Dancin' Tots

Ages 12 months-3 years (This is a parent / child participation class)

An introduction to music, movement and dance with the emphasis on developing motor skills, rhythm, and creative movement. Fun and quality time with your child  is encouraged throughout the class.

 

Creative Dance

Age: 3 years

This class helps develop basic dance skills through songs and dance.  At this young age, basic ballet is taught without focusing on technique.  Children are encouraged to express themselves in  individual  ways through dance.  This is a fun, creative environment and an excellent way to introduce your young child to music and movement.

 

Intro Ballet and Combination Ballet/Tap/Jazz Classes

Age: 4 years and up

Introductory classes focus on learning the disciplined structure of a dance class as well as basic dance technique. Students will be introduced to barre work, center work and simple variations and combinations in a fun and non-competitive environment.
 

Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet is a beautiful and theatrical form of dance, and is the base of almost every type of dance. This class assists with balance, body placement, and alignment in dance.  Ballet is beneficial to many types of sports, and helps to develop postural alignment, strength and flexibility. French Terminology is taught in all levels. A combination of ballet techniques, such as Cechetti, Russian, and Royal Academy Dance (RAD) is taught.

We strongly recommend that all students enroll in a ballet class along with other classes.

 

Pointe

For the Intermediate and Advanced ballet students. You must have director approval along with an  X-ray from a qualified physician.  Instructor must approve pointe shoes before sewing on the ribbons.

 

Lyrical/ Modern

A technique class which combines traditional jazz and balletic choreography. This form of dance allows the student to express themselves while maintaining classical training.

 

Jazz

A technique class that combines traditional jazz with the ever-changing styles of today.  Each class consists of a warm up, across the floor progressions and upbeat dance combinations.  This class is high-energy and is for anyone who wants to have fun!

 

Tap

This classic dance form can be learned by the youngest dancer to the determined adult. This class teaches rhythm, coordination, style, and clarity of sound. While using the feet as a musical instrument, tap teaches rhythm and strengthens memory retention.

 

Hip Hop

Learn the latest dance craze. This upbeat class teaches street style dance and consists of warm-up, combination drills, and is for anyone who wants to have a great time.

 

Cheer Funk

Whether you’re a cheerleader or a dancer this different style of hip hop is energetic and full of new moves. This class combines the popular hip hop style with sharp cheer movements and techniques.

 

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is now here at KDC. This style of dance is perfect for any dancer who has an inner actor or actress inside them. Combined with your basic jazz and ballet technique, this class brings Broadway musicals straight to KDC. Musical Theatre is guaranteed to be lots of fun as the class focuses on facials, attitude, personality, performance, and of course dance. So don’t forget to make everything Big, Big, and Bigger in Musical Theatre. No singing is required.

 

Boys Funk

This all boys’ class is perfect for any males who want to work it on the dance floor. Boys funk consist of stretch and conditioning, hip hop moves, and your basic jazz technique. Boys will be taught your fundamental dance etiquette while learning stretch and conditioning techniques that can applied outside of dance. Remember “No Girls Allowed.”

 

Learn & Leap

Ages: 3 & 4

Give your preschooler a leg-up when it comes to being prepared for school.  This unique class combines rhythm, melody and movement in a learning environment that kids thrive in.  Taught by experienced, credentialed teachers, Learn & Leap incorporates the concepts that teachers have long understood- If a child can hear it, sing it, touch it, and move to it, they will understand and remember it.  Students in the Learn & Leap program will learn basic school concepts such as shapes, colors, numbers, and letters.  They will also learn critical early literature skills like, rhyming, alliteration, and patterns.  Along with all of this, students will work on developing their social skills as well as their gross motor skills with skipping, rolling, jumping, balancing and much more!  Learn & Leap classes will meet one-hour twice a week.  Students will not only leave class each week with a story, song or rhyme that matches the theme, but also a joy for learning though movement and play.  Parents will receive resources to help reinforce concepts at home.

 

Ballroom

Ages: Adults

 Adults with or without a partner can enjoy these classes in relaxed and fun atmosphere.  Our Ballroom instructor will be teaching group classes and privates in East Coast and West Coast Swing, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Fox Trot, Waltz, and American Tango.  Group classes are 4-week sessions.  Singles and couples welcome!
